Education is the platform for a successful life, and when we invest in the education of children everywhere, we are creating a world where all have opportunities to thrive.
Yet around the world, access to quality education is far from universal. The UN estimates that one quarter of schools worldwide lack basic infrastructure such as electricity, drinking water and sanitation. hundreds of millions of children are not completing their education. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused documented learning loss for students. And in the United States and elsewhere, many students lack the support systems that encourage them to develop a love of reading and learning.
Supporting children’s education is a team effort, and Embrace Relief is doing its part to support children worldwide through our Education programs, which offer donors several different ways to invest in the next generation of students:
- First Bricks:
Since 2019, this program has served more than 4,000 refugee students’ educational needs, providing virtual learning in more than 350 courses led by volunteer professionals. This has been an invaluable service for vulnerable refugee children, who often lack access to the public school systems in their new countries.
- School Supply Drives:
Over the years, Embrace Relief has provided more than 7,000 computers and 33,000 books to schools and school libraries around the world. Additionally, since 2019, we have kicked off each new school year in New Jersey by providing backpacks filled with basic school supplies (notebooks, pencils and rules) to more than 3,500 underprivileged students.
- Homework Help:
Our newest program matches students in grades K-12 with a volunteer with demonstrated knowledge in math, English or the sciences. Mentor and student meet each week for at least one hour via video chat to work on homework, with the mentor able to assist the student in understanding their lessons.
Our programs encourage a love of learning and have given thousands of students the tools they need to become literate, educated young people. In this way, we are helping create a generation of adults that will have more opportunities, more control over their lives, and more prosperity.
