The Turkish Cultural Center of New York, Embrace Relief, and New York State Senator Luis R. Sepulveda are collaborating to distribute food packages to families facing hunger in the Bronx in New York City.
According to the Hunger-Free America 2019 New York City Hunger Report, nearly one in four residents in the Bronx faced food insecurity compared to the one in ten people in the city and statewide. Moreover, there have been a tremendous number of requests to Senator Sepulveda’s office from residents in the Parkchester and Sterling neighborhoods to do food distributions.
According to New York State Senator Luis R. Sepulveda's office, The residents in these areas are mostly immigrants and have a high volume of unemployment rate due to COVID-19. The population is largely Bengali and Muslim, which is why halal food would be more appropriate to donate.
The Turkish Cultural Center of New York, Embrace Relief, and New York State Senator Luis R. Sepulveda are hoping to collect and distribute as many food packages as we can..
Food packages will include a variety of nonperishable canned goods, pasta, sauce, and other goods. Any donation amount will help us reach our goal of $15,000 and will directly help hundreds of food-insecure families throughout the Bronx.
