Our project for UN CSW69 addresses the impact of cataracts, the leading cause of blindness in Africa, which disproportionately affects women and girls due to limited healthcare access and labor-intensive conditions. In partnership with Embrace Relief, Advocates of Silenced Turkey (AST), and Set Them Free we will conduct research, raise awareness, and support cataract surgeries in Uganda. Our initiative will culminate in a UN CSW69 panel, advocating for policy action and global engagement to combat preventable blindness as a gender equality issue.

The Crisis: Blindness in Mali

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, accounting for over 50% of cases. In Mali, where access to eye care is severely limited, thousands of people are left needlessly blind, unable to work, care for their families, or contribute to their communities. Without treatment, cataracts force individuals into dependence, creating a ripple effect of hardship for their loved ones. A simple 15-minute surgery, costing just $100 per patient, can restore vision and completely transform a person’s life.

Our Goal: 40 Life-Changing Surgeries

With your help, we are raising $4,000 to fund 40 cataract surgeries for individuals in Mali who cannot afford treatment. These surgeries will be performed by skilled medical professionals at a trusted local clinic, ensuring each patient receives quality care.
