Hunger can be found in every part of the world, including right here in the United States. At Embrace Relief, we strive to ensure that all people have enough food to eat. Nearly 38 million Americans are food insecure, according to the USDA. That’s 1 in 10 people, and includes many of our neighbors in New Jersey and New York. In the wealthiest country on the planet, we have an abundance of food to ensure all people can thrive. Yet hunger remains prevalent in many of our most vulnerable communities, including older Americans – six in 10 senior citizens must choose between buying their regular groceries and paying utility bills – as well as African Americans, Latinos, and indigenous people.

With millions in poverty, and millions more living in “food deserts” – areas without convenient access to healthy food and grocery stores – we have a responsibility to help those closest to us.

To help those who are most in need, Embrace Relief operates numerous food distribution events and soup kitchens in the United States each year. These events have reached hundreds of thousands of people in need.

The U.S. is one of the countries benefiting from our annual International Hunger Relief program; in 2023 alone, our two IHR campaigns provided more than 22,000 food packages to American families. In past years, we’ve also delivered hot meals and food packages to states as widespread as California, Texas, Georgia, and New York.

In 2021, we also launched our Mobile Market, a food truck that makes periodic deliveries of fresh produce, nutritious food, and household supplies, to towns in New Jersey including Montclair, Hackensack, East Orange, Garfield, and Clifton. More than 1,000 families have benefitted from our Mobile Market to date.
