Campaign story
On September 8, 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, around 50 miles south of Marrakech in the High Atlas Mountains, resulting in devastating loss of life, injuries, and thousands of damaged and destroyed homes. As of September 14, the death toll surpassed 3,000 people, with over 18,000 families affected, which is only expected to rise. Hundreds of thousands of families, along with their children, have been forced to leave their homes and land because of the earthquake and urgently need assistance.
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Storm Daniel swept the Green Mountain region of Libya with heavy rains and strong winds reaching speeds of 80 km/h. The torrential rainfall caused the catastrophic collapse of two dams upstream of the region, resulting in downstream flooding with the release of millions of cubic meters. The flooding led to the devastating obliteration of entire neighborhoods, leading to massive losses of life and injuries. As of September 17, the reported death toll reached a shocking 11,300 confirmed fatalities; over 38,000 people have been displaced, and approximately 800,000 women, children, and men desperately need humanitarian assistance.
In response to the tragic events in both Morocco and Libya, Pinnacle Academy is running a fund-raising drive whole next week (September 26-October 6,2023). You can donate online or in-person throughout the week.
On Friday, September 29, we hold a fund-raising breakfast in school cafeteria.
All donations from this giving drive will support Embrace Relief’s Morocco Earthquake and Libya Flood Relief to provide basic necessities to the people impacted by this terrible tragedy. Every dollar you donate will provide aid for the people of Morocco and Libya, helping to ease their suffering as they begin to recover.
The relief drive will run for 10 business days, from September 25 - October 6, 2023
